Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation - Los Angeles (TRHT-LA) presents an interpretive Tongva history walk through Downtown Los Angeles. The walk attempts to re-envision the landscape as Yaangna, the principal ancestral village for Tongva and Gabrieleno communities prior to contact with European settlers and missionaries in the late 1700s. The walk offers a glimpse into indigenous worldviews and will highlight our current relationships with water and nature, public spaces, oral histories, land and ancestry. Places to be visited include the Yaangna Plaque, Placita Olvera, Union Station and other unacknowledged sites. The goal of the walk is to give voice to suppressed histories and inspire new futures for our city and communities.
The walk will be guided by Craig Torres, Cindi Alvitre, Julia Bogany and Desiree Martinez―local Tongva educators, historians and cultural workers.
